Kestrel Heights School Admissions

The More You Know….One month to go!

First day of school: Summer vacation is flying past! Only one month until our school year begins! All students should be report to school on Monday, August 22nd.

 Please make every effort to have your child present on our first day of school.


School hours:  Our school hours remain unchanged from previous years. Students may be dropped off no earlier than 30 minutes prior to the start of school.

 Kindergarten - 5th grade: 7:45 am - 2:30 pm

Grades 6th - 12th:  8:00 am - 3:00 pm


Open House:  Our Kestrel Open House will be held on Thursday Aug 18th during the following times:


Kindergarten - 5th:  4:00pm - 6:00pm at the elementary school

Grades 6th - 8th:  Orientation will be held in the HS gym at 6pm followed by open house at the middle school at 7pm.

Grades 9th -12th: Open house will be held at the high school at 6:00 pm followed by orientation in the HS gym at 7pm.


Uniform Policy Change for Grades 6th - 12th:  The Uniform Policy for the upper school (6th-12th) has been revised.  Did we mention navy blue is back! Please see the attached uniform policy for more information.

Seats are available!- Do you have a neighbor or friend who may be interested in enrolling their child at Kestrel Heights School?  We have a openings, and no wait list, for our 6th, 7th and 9th grades.  We are still accepting applications for our other grades which have very small wait lists at this time.  Application are available on our website or contact Ms. Vargas through email at in Admissions for more information.


High School Football: Any student interested in playing Varsity Football for Kestrel Heights School this upcoming season should contact Head Football Coach David Lloyd at We have already started summer workouts in preparation for the season. We are coming off of a very strong year and we look to continue this success. We are looking for hard working, high character, student athletes that can make a positive contribution to our team and our school. If you are interested, please contact Coach Lloyd as soon as possible.


Diabetes: If your child is diabetic, please contact Ms. Gordon at for information on setting up an individual diabetic care plan for your child.


Supply Lists - The supply lists for the upcoming school year are located on our website at  Please choose your school level and locate the link for the supply list on the left hand side of the page.


State Health Assessment Forms: State law requires that every child entering public schools in N.C. receive a health assessment. If your child has enrolled in KHS Kindergarten or your child is transferring from a private, home school or out of state, the State Health Assessment is required prior to the first day of attendance on August 22nd.   Please send all completed forms to Ms. Vargas in the Admissions office.


7th grade Immunizations: Children who start 7th grade on or after July 1, 2015 will be required to have vaccines recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to protect them from serious diseases. Students entering 7th grade will be required to have one dose each of Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) and meningococcal vaccines if they have not previously received these vaccines. Your child will have to provide proof of vaccination by the first day of school.


Carpool World: The Kestrel carpool database available for our parents interested in carpooling with other KHS parents:  We will monitor the site to ensure only current KHS parents are registered; however, all carpool arrangements and safety concerns are the responsibility of the parent.


FERPA:  In accordance with the NC State Guidelines, we are providing you with information for The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).  FERPA Information may be found here:  This information is also available on our website.


Required Health Information: Per the NC Health Department and the Department of Public Instruction, all public schools are required to annually inform of the following information and vaccines available:


For parents of students all grades:  Meningococcal Meningitis, and Influenza

For parents of students in grades 5th - 12th: HPV

For parents of students in grades 7th - 12th - Preventable Risks of Preterm Delivery

For parents of students in grades 9th - 12th: Safe Surrender Law
